Fun with HBO Latino’s El Perro y El Gato

~ THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED ~

We have a new favorite at our house…El Perro y El Gato!  I absolutely cannot believe that I haven’t seen this show before. All in all, it’s probably the best bilingual children’s show that I’ve ever watched…and that includes Dora and Diego (who we also love in the Patiño casa).  This show gets so much applause in our home because it’s very unique in one special way…it’s funny.  Baby girl can laugh at it and so can mami and papi.  I have to admit, at first glance I was a little nervous, I mean, chihuahuas get a really bad rep for being used to stereotype Latinos, so I was wary.  I am pleasantly surprised to report though, that El Perro is just that…a dog.  He and Gato are best friends and do everything together.  Most of all, they are explorers and imagineers.  They are goofy and make up special little songs for everything they do, from washing their paws to playing basketball.

So far, my daughter is completely enamored with Gato, who has a deep voice and relentlessly pesters Perro with “Que?“, his often request for a helpful translation.  Lily loves it.  She loves the fun songs, the inviting colors, familiar themes and the silly ways that Perro and Gato play off each other…sometimes annoying each other and other times making each other laugh…just like a real family.  I love that El Perro y El Gato mirrors our family and the way that we talk at home…with a few extra que’s thrown in, of course.  ;)  Here’s a little preview for you…

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and keeping la cultura alive for my daughter’s generation, I’m giving away a four disc DVD set of El Perro y El Gato, courtesy of HBO Latino!

El perro y el gato 4 pack dvd set

The DVD set (a $38.90 retail value) includes four installments:

El Perro Y El Gato: The Adventure Begins – “Meet El Perro y El Gato. In their debut show, they introduce pre-schoolers as well as older brothers and sisters to their non-stop world. With lots of vibrant colors and plenty of attitude, these two best friends – a dynamic dog and a laid back cat – create wonderful adventures from the beach to the zoo to the first day of school. And everything is in English and in Spanish. El Perro y El Gato is a totally fun way to learn both languages!”  (Approximately 19 minutes.)

El Perro Y El Gato: Unleashed – “What could be more fun than hanging out with an unstoppable dog and a taking-it-easy cat, and learning a new language along the way? Their worldviews may be different, but they’re still best friends, and totally bilingual. In Unleashed/Sin Correa, El Perro y El Gato make some beautiful music, do a little yoga, walk us through all four seasons, and welcome a new baby to the family. Plus, lots more. But whatever they are up to, it’s always fun.”  (Approximately 25 minutes.)

El Perro Y El Gato: Together Again – “Take a trip with El Perro y El Gato as they pack for a vacation in the wild, wild west and the hills of Hollywood. Don’t forget your sunglasses! And the adventures don’t end at the airport! It’s non-stop action as our gregarious dog and unflappable cat figure out what it means to be best friends – and pass on a few bilingual lessons, of course. Learning a new language has never been so much fun!”  (Approximately 25 minutes.)

El Perro Y El Gato: From Here to There – “Who wants to be an astronaut? Or a vet? Or go on a jungle adventure? Then join up with El Perro y El Gato, two best friends who go from an under the sea encounter with an octopus to a not-quite-ordinary trip to the supermarket. Wherever they go, it’s always fun, and always in English and in Spanish. This dog and cat are going places!”   (Approximately 25 minutes.)

HBO Latino also offers a four book collection of El Perro y El Gato in their eShop which I highly recommend!

*LOL* Chihuahuas get a bad rap! You know it. I entered Tracey's drawing a couple month's ago. Join the club, amiga. I hadn't heard of these guys, either. The cat and dog are hysterical. I LOVE THEIR VOICES. El gato is such a baritone. Jijijiji. I'll come back to leave my "entry" comment after I've had a chance to watch these. Too cute!!!
