Pumpkin Picking & Falls Park Fun
Over the past two weeks the weather has really cooled down here in Sioux Falls and we’ve been getting really excited about the upcoming holidays. Yesterday, we finally jump-started our holiday season by taking a little trip to the outskirts of town where we could pick our own pumpkin…the old fashioned way.
When I was a kid, we always picked our own pumpkin. It was the cheapest way…and the funnest way…to pick your holiday pumpkin. Nowadays it’s a little different. You can pick your pumpkin up at any Wal-mart across the country, so what’s the point in “picking”, right? But I think there’s something to be said for the experience of visiting a real farm and seeing where pumpkins really come from.
I know mija loved it. We walked around the whole farm and took pictures of the fields, the animals, the shops and every other little attraction. It was fun and I’m sure it will be something we remember for a long time. Back in Michigan we used to go to Pumpkin patches all the time, and berry picking and apple picking…but we hadn’t done any of those things here in Sioux Falls yet, so it was really nice to continue the tradition in a new place.
The farm that we visited yesterday is quite far from our home, so I buckled mija up in her big girl Frontier car seat and we headed for the “country”. We packed up a little picnic lunch and I took my new Nikon D3200 camera so we could get plenty of pictures of our outing to send back home to grandma. ;)
It was so much fun to spend the day doing something that reminded me of my own childhood. The environment was so peaceful. For nature lovers, I know you get what I’m saying. Sometimes you just need to “get away from it all”. We definitely did that and loved it, as you can see in the pictures below. Check out the photos from our trip below.
Do you travel during the holidays or go out on day trips with your familia? Where do you go and what is your favorite activity?
